FARES ARE CHANGING - 1 JULY 2024

As part of recent government decisions and the Waikato Regional Council Long Term Plan, public transport fares are changing from 1 July 2024.

Government funding that enables the provision of free travel for 5 to 12 year olds and half-price fares for 13 to 24 year olds concluded on 30 April 2024.

Waikato Regional Council has decided to continue the current public transport fare structure and extend the concessions for aged-based fares until 30 June 2024.

From 1 July 2024, public transport fares in Waikato will increase by 20 per cent on the following services:

  • BUSIT
  • Te Huia

The Flex on-demand service will remain $2 per trip.

AGED BASED FARES

From 1 July 2024, fares will revert back to the previous structure of one standard Bee Card fare and one cash fare regardless of passenger age.

The weekly payable fare cap will reduce to 6.5 trips for youth aged 5-18 years and the adult fare cap will remain at nine trips (of the repeated daily journey).

Youth fare capping will require a registered Bee Card with your child’s name and date of birth.

CONCESSIONS

SuperGold, Community Connect and Accessibility Concessions will continue for the Waikato region.

A registered Bee Card and application process is required to access public transport concessions.

The Total Mobility transport scheme will also continue for eligible residents in Hamilton City, Waikato District, Waipā,  Matamata-Piako, Thames, Tokoroa and Taupō districts.
